“SWEETHEART, YOU LOOK great. You don’t need to change again,” Theo says as I rush around the apartment like a mad woman. The hearing is in an hour, and we are leaving soon.

“This is court, Theo. I can’t look too casual or no one will take me seriously. And I can’t look over-dressed or I’ll look like I’m trying too hard.”

“Baby, you have on a nice dress. It’s perfect for something like this,” he tells me, putting his hands on my shoulders to keep me still.

“Are you sure?” I ask, my belly in knots. I feel like I’m sweating buckets. Theo tried to get me to eat something, but the idea alone had me wanting to puke.

“Ellie, baby, look at me,” he says to me in a calm voice. “Breathe.” And I do, taking a few deep breaths. “You’ve got this. We’re here with you. Everything is going to be okay.”

I nod, taking another deep breath. “You’re right. I’m getting so worked up over nothing. This isn’t even my hearing.”

“Come on, let’s get going before you trash your closet again,” he says.

The whole car ride there, I’m on pins and needles. And when we get out of the car in front of the court house, I find Rain standing there, dressed in a pencil skirt and blouse, her long red hair up in a professional looking bun. Why now, of all times, am I having naughty secretary fantasies?

I guess when your mind is running a mile a minute, nothing makes sense.

The guys look handsome in dress clothes. The last time I saw them looking like this was when they dressed up for graduation.

“Ready?” Theo asks, moving to stand next to me.

“With you there with me, always.” I give him a shaky smile as I slip my fingers into his, and we head over to the others.

“Hey, babe,” Chase says, pulling me into his arms and kissing the top of my head when we reach them. “How are you feeling?”

“I’ll be honest, I’m a bit of a mess.” I let out a nervous chuckle. “But I’ve got all of you here with me. I think I’ll be fine.”

“You don’t have to do this, Ellie,” Brody says, stepping forward. His normally messy brown hair is tamed, and the dress shirt he’s wearing hugs his muscles tight. Why does he have to look so good, and be a raging dick?

“I said I’m doing this,” I tell him. “So suck it up because I’m not going anywhere.” I raise a brow and lift my chin, daring him to argue with me.

“Eleanor Tatum?” someone asks from behind me. Turning around, I see a well-dressed man who looks to be in his forties walking toward us with a briefcase.

“Yes, that’s me,” I tell him as he stops before me.

“Hi, I’m Jeff McWilson.”

“Oh, hi, it’s nice to meet you in person. Thank you so much for coming,” I greet him, taking his hand to shake it.

“Of course. Seeing how Mr. Creed’s case and yours play a big part with each other, I thought it would be best.
